CUSTOMS AND EXCISE, CANADA

Deputy Minister of Agriculture,

Ottawa, Ont.

Sir,

Port of Victoria, B.C.,

February 4th, 1925.

13

Seizure No. 561, covering the seizure of 15 cases Dry Duck.

Under instructions contained in "An Act Respecting

the Importation of Meats and Canned Foods, Sec. 41, I have the honcur to report an infraction of the regulations respecting Certificate requirements, as follows:-

A shipment of fifteen cases of "sausage" was invoiced from San Wo Hing, Hong Kong, consigned to Wing Hong Yuen of this city. Duty was paid on the entry as sausage. On examination at the Examining Warehouse it was found that the fifteen cases contained Dry Duck, covered with a layer of sausage, and the shipment was thereupon placed under seizure and the facts reported to the Department of Customs and Excise, Ottawa, today.

It would appear that the covering certificate which

accompanied the shipment, issued by the Veterinary Surgeon in

Hong Kong was wrongly given, as it described the contents of

the case as sausage.

I have, &c.,

Collector, Custans and Excise.
